How to Care for Your Dinkum Doll

How to Care for Your Dinkum Doll

Learn how to look after your child’s beloved doll so it can be played with for years to come!

Olli Ella’s Dinkum Dolls aren’t just toys - they’re playmates that can spark a world of imagination and adventure. They’re made to be hugged, dressed, and adored, which means from time to time a little TLC will go a long way to make sure they’re ready to be played with again and again!

If you want to keep your Dinkum Doll well-loved and looked after, here are a few simple washing tips for the grown-ups to follow:

Best for Everyday Marks: Spot Cleaning

If your doll has suffered a small spill or smudge, we recommend spot cleaning with a soft cloth, mild detergent & cold water. Simply pat the area gently with the wet cloth (rather than rubbing to protect the fabric) and you should see the marks lift away.

Best for a Full Clean: Machine Washing

Yes, you need not worry - Olli Ella Dinkum Dolls are machine washer safe, but be sure to follow these steps to protect them as much as possible when giving them a deeper clean.

  • Place the doll inside a pillowcase or laundry bag and ensure it is closed shut

  • Only wash on a cold, gentle cycle

  • Use a mild detergent

  • Do not bleach or tumble dry

While they can be washed if necessary, it’s important to remember that Dinkum Dolls are extremely delicate, which means that wear on areas like the stitching and embroidered details can occur with washing - so we recommend keeping machine washing to a minimum!

Drying Your Dinkum Doll

Once washed, reshape the doll while damp and allow it to air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight. Always air dry them flat or laid on a towel so that the shape remains. Avoid radiators, tumble dryers or direct sunlight, as heat can affect the softness and shape of the doll.

When not being played with, we recommend you store Dinkum Dolls somewhere clean and dry. If they’re being saved for a sibling or future play, keeping them in a breathable cotton bag is ideal!

Plus once they’re dry, you can comb their hair again using a soft combed brush however you want!

Caring for Dinkum Clothes & Accessories

Their outfits & accessories are just as special as the dolls themselves, and as such their care follow the same rules as above:

  • Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle

  • Use mild detergent

  • Air dry only

This helps preserve the fabric, colours and tiny details that make each outfit so charming.

Teaching Little Ones to Care for Their Dolls

Looking after a Dinkum Doll can be a lovely way to encourage responsibility and empathy in young children. Simple routines - like helping “wash” their doll, tucking them into bed or storing them safely - turn care into part of the play experience.
